Steak, Potato Gratin and Tenderstem Probably*

The Troll got up to her usual shenanigans at bedtime last night. Too hot. Too cold. Too noisy. Need the toilet. Tummy hurts. She was particularly persistent with the tummy excuse and even went to great lengths of acting it out by clutching her tummy and wincing her eyes.

"Back. To. Bed."

This went on for an hour or so until Britains Next Top Model started and I heard retching. I grabbed the fruit bowl as I made a 3 meter dash to her room just in time to see her projectile vomit all over her bed. I emptied the fruit on the floor and shoved the bowl under the unending stream of her evening meal (and some rice - where did rice come from? Two days ago....?).

Chunky Lover ran in next, pulverising a stray satsuma underfoot. The Troll gagged and retched until she had nothing left in her belly. This was vomit number one. Vomit number twelve happened at about 3.30am. Between then there was a constant round of bed swapping, bowl emptying, brow mopping, and drinks being knocked over in general confusion. Squirky had her feed at 5.30 and we were all up at 07:00ish. I feel surprisingly chipper!

The Troll is still ill 24hrs on which means she is either an INCREDIBLE actress, or I need to be a bit more trusting of her bedtime 'prob-a-lems'.

WHAT WENT INTO DINNER FOR TWO:

  • Lean steak marinated in the last of my Sylvia's Rib Rub (boo hoo...)
  • 3 maris piper potatoes
  • Red onion
  • Half a pint of chicken stock made with bovril (and added seasoning, lazy garlic and garlic salt)
  • Tenderstem Broccoli *or 'probably' which is what The Troll calls broccoli

HOW I DID IT:

  • Slice potatoes and onion thinly and fit into a baking dish

  • Cover with stock and seasoning mix and seal with tin foil

  • Pop in oven (gas mark 6) for one hour

  • Fry steaks to liking

  • Boil

BREAKFAST: 3 CUPS OF TEA WITH DASHES OF MILK (1.5 SYNS), 4 SCRAMBLED EGGS AND A TIN OF SPAGHETTI HOOPS; LUNCH: TUNA MAYO (0.5 SYNS), LETTUCE, BOILED EGG, ROASTED PEPPER AND TOMATOES, 8 OLIVES (1 SYN); DINNER: "STEAK, POTATO GRATIN AND TENDERSTEM PROBABLY"; SNACKS: 2 BANANAS, 1 SATSUMA, 2 ALPEN LIGHT BARS (HEALTHY B CHOICE); PUDDING: VERY BERRY TRIFLE (0.4 SYNS), OPTIONS CARIBBEAN COCONUT HOT CHOCOLATE MADE WITH MILK (HEALTHY A CHOICE AND 1.5 SYNS)
